Terressentials Is Coming to Town!
So I’m uber excited!
For the last 4 months I have been on a hunt to find the most effective and non-drying shampoo on the market as I often feel that my hair is been stripped too much during washing. With applicator bottle or not, I often end up with product over most of my hair strands despite my efforts to only limit washing to the scalp. More importantly, the talk of using a mild/natural shampoo for one wash didn’t sit well with me.
You have to understand, I use tons of my own whipped shea butter formulation (look out for a post on this luxurious concotion soon), a leave in or wash out conditioner, other natural oils and of course water in my regular hair moisturizing routine. The problem came one day after I washed my scalp once as instructed. When I emerged from the shower I was horrified to see a white, stiff, gooey substance coating my hair. It was the build up mixing with the cleanser in the shampoo to form an obvious unsightly mess. I immediately dove back into the shower to give my hair a good wash. A product of the Caribbean, I have been brought up with the understanding that your scalp is only clean when you scratch it and there is no buildup in your fingernails. And frankly, ‘it jus mek common sense.’ From that point on, I’ve found that my scalp generally needs at least 2 washes to be clean, even with my ever loved Giovanni Smooth as Silk, Tea Tree Triple Treat or Magnetic Energizing shampoos.
The end product is usually very clean (not squeaky) and nice hair. Nevertheless, I always felt as though my hair just felt more stripped than it needed to be at times. Don’t get me wrong I really, really, really love Giovanni! They have revolutionized my life and I will forever use their products. But I wouldn’t mind a milder cleanser that feels similar to a cowash but without the greasiness. My hair is begging me for it.
Thus the hunt began!!
I began to search hair forums, blogs, vlogs, youtube and just about everywhere for a less stripping cleanser, if that was even possible! I’d seen the [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR3n1GCQQQk&feature=plcp] from Naptural85 spouting about her love affair with Terressentials Mud Wash ageeeeees ago. But recently I saw her FAQ Post About Terressentials and that sparked my interest again. So after countless hours reading Emily Cotton Top’s review, Natural Art Maven’s review, Minimalist Beauty’s review Hairscapade’s review (really helpful) and the list goes on and on and on; after reading and watching the bad, the good, the great and the ugly about Terressentials Mud Wash for months, I decided that it was worth my while to give Terry a try.
So I ordered two 16oz. bottles of Lavender Garden, one for me and the other for my mum to try. If I like it, the shipping is just too much to order a 2nd batch so soon. So why not get all I need, right? Worst case scenario I waste US$70+ (shipping to US address then clearance in JA). Ouch!! that’s alot!
So a week later I’m twiddling my thumbs, awaiting my lovely package from Terresentials. I decided I won’t be doing the week long detox as most of the products I use in my hair are all natural and I wouldn’t have as much build up due to PVP vinyls, acrylates, silicones, carbomers, or hydrolyzed synthetic protein (soy, wheat, oat) polymers. Either way I will use it 5 times consistently and I have made up my mind that, regardless of the results, good, bad or great I won’t be disappointed with my purchase. I’ve just been mulling this over way to long to get vex maaaan!! In the meantime, I continue twiddling because I can’t wait to be telling you my thoughts once Terry has come to town! 🙂
